I brushed my teeth vigorously, trying to calm my pounding heart. It wasn’t pounding because I was panicking in that moment. It was pounding because I was excited.
As much as I’d talked about not being ready and taking things slow, the moment Garrett had sat down beside me on the bed, all I’d wanted was to move quickly. Of course, I’d let my logic take the lead for a while.
When I’d felt his emotions—namely, his attraction—my feelings had mirrored his perfectly. I wanted him as much as he wanted me.
After being together again I was confident in the decision to share a bed with him. Letting him feel my emotions wasn’t a problem either.
At least, I hoped it wasn’t a problem.
What would happen when Callum realized that was just as attracted to him as he was to me?
I rinsed my mouth and determined that I was just going to have to wait and see, because I had no idea how to predict that man’s reactions.
When I stepped out of the bathroom, Callum was sprawled out on the bed in a pair of basketball shorts and a tight white t-shirt. His body looked relaxed, but I could in his eyes that relaxed wasn’t what he was feeling.
We had known we were soulmates for two weeks, and we were finally going to sleep in the same bed.
“Can I turn off the lights?” my words came out softer than I planned.
Callum nodded, and I watched his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed.
He was just as nervous as I was.
I flipped off the lights, and then was surprised by how well I could see in the dark. It was a panther thing, I guessed. One I hadn’t paid attention to until I used it to keep checking out my soulmate as I walked around to the side of the bed that he wasn’t on.
I’d spent the whole day in my pajamas—a pair of old, comfy leggings and a large long-sleeved t-shirt. If I’d been home alone, I would’ve taken them off and slept in the tank top and underwear I had on underneath, but I wasn’t alone.
Sleeping in my underwear when I wanted things to stay PG between us—or at least PG-13—wasn’t a good idea.
I slipped between the sheets, pulling the comforter up to my chin the way I always did. Callum was still on top of the blankets, and he seemed hesitant to join me underneath.
“Do you want me to sleep on top of the comforter so things don’t get too… intense?” he asked.
Heaven help me, that smooth voice of his was going to kill me.
Did I want him to sleep on top of the comforter when I could be enjoying his body heat, along with his muscles and his skin and the rest of him? Was he crazy?
“Well I don’t want you to be cold.”
I bit back a smile at how sly I was.
“That was pretty smooth, stretch. Maybe I would’ve believed you if you hadn’t been checking me out a minute ago.
